IPL – 3 best knocks of Andre Russel

IPL - 3 best knocks of Andre Russel

The two champions of the Indian Premier League Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) wouldn’t have thought that their star allrounder Andre Russel would provide some breathtaking batting performance when they acquired his services in 2014.

The powerful Caribbean allrounder is known to be the second most dangerous hitter of the game after the Universe boss Chris Gayle. Russel also worked on his bowling and improved a lot over the years as he became one the most important player of KKR. On that note, we will take a look at the 3 best knocks of Russel in IPL.

1. 88*(36) KKR vs CSK in 2018

KKR clashed against the four-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 5th match of IPL at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in 2018. Batting first KKR amassed a total of 202 runs with the help of an outstanding finishing knock of 88* runs off just 36 deliveries by Russel which included 1 four and 11 sixes at a mind-boggling strike rate of 244.44. However, despite this, KKR lost the match by 5 wickets

2. 80*(40) KKR vs MI in 2019

The five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) faced off with KKR in the 47th match of IPL in 2019. MI asked KKR to bat first, but their decision proved wrong as KKR put up a monumental total of 232 runs in 20 overs. Firstly, openers Shubman Gill and Chris Lynn stitched a 96-run stand for the first wicket and then Russel came at no.3 and smashed 80* runs off just 40 balls which included 6 fours and 8 sixes. MI couldn’t chase the target and could only score 198 runs.

3. 48*(13) KKR vs RCB in 2019

KKR locked horns with their arch-rivals Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru in 2019. RCB put up a target of 206 runs in front of KKR. The then Dinesh Karthik-led team were chasing the target well until they started losing back-to-back wickets. However, Russel came and hammered 48* runs off just 13 balls and helped to achieve the target with balls to spare. He smashed 1 four and 7 sixes during his knock at a breathtaking strike rate of 369. 23.
