IPL 2025: Predicting PBKS’s playing XI for their clash against GT

Punjab Kings will take on Gujarat Titans in match no—five of IPL 2025. When Shreyas Iyer takes over as IPL captain for the third time, Punjab Kings will look to turn things around and aim for their first final in eleven years.  Following their time together with the Delhi Capitals, Iyer and head coach Ricky Ponting have reunited with the Kings.

But in an attempt to turn things around, PBKS hired Ricky Ponting as head coach and used the auction to acquire a new leader. Punjab Kings need a new beginning with the return of a successful coaching-captain combination that previously guided a team to the IPL final. With a reorganized team that includes both young, talented players and seasoned veterans, PBKS hopes to end their losing skid and make a strong run for their first championship. 

Top Order:

Prabhsimran Singh has shown himself to be a great asset to the team. He has delivered spectacular performances to repay the team’s enormous faith in him. Josh Inglis will be his opening partner. In T20 he can give the team a good start and get big runs. Shreyas Iyer was a standout acquisition for PBKS in the mega auction and an experienced leader who led KKR to an IPL title in 2024.  His consistency at number three will be essential to the team’s performance.

Middle Order:

Shashank Singh has cemented his spot in the team following an incredible IPL season. He is a game-changer in the middle order because of his power-hitting abilities. Glenn Maxwell brings his aggressive batting and all-around skills back to the Punjab Kings. He is a vital member of the PBKS team since he can change the outcome of a match with both the bat and the ball. Another returning player who gives depth to the bowling and batting units is Marcus Stoinis. He is a dependable all-around player who can contribute at key times thanks to his hitting.

Lower-Middle Order:

In IPL conditions, the tall South African pacer’s combination of speed and bounce may be a game-changer.  His value as a lower-order contributor is increased by his ability to contribute with the bat. Harpreet Brar has been with PBKS for a long time and is a reliable all-round player.  His ability to spin with his left arm has changed the game. 

Lower Order:

A key member of Punjab Kings’ pace attack, Arshdeep Singh has been a consistent wicket-taker. His death bowling skills, especially in close games, make him a tremendous asset for PBKS. One of the most successful spinners in IPL history, Yuzvendra Chahal, adds a lot of experience to PBKS’ bowling attack. His ability to deceive batters with his variations makes him a valuable wicket-taker. Vijaykumar Vyhak is another bowler who can support fast bowling. 

Impact Player: Nehal Wadhera can come as an impact player for the team. His bowling skills are good and can swing the new ball well. He can also score some runs with the bat.
