After defeating the defending champions KKR by a big margin of 8 wickets in the previous game, the five-time champions, Mumbai Indians will face the Lucknow Super Giants in the 16th game of the ongoing Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025). Lucknow’s BRSABV Ekana Stadium will host this game on Friday, April 4, at 7:30 PM (IST).

Notably, the Mumbai Indians have registered only one win in their three games so far in the tournament, including two successive defeats in the first two games against CSK and GT, respectively. So, they will be eyeing winning this game and moving to the list of top four teams in the tournament standings.

Given that, here we’ll have a look at the predicted playing XI and a perfect combination of the Mumbai Indians for their next clash against LSG.

The MI might opt to go ahead with the same opening pair of former skipper Rohit Sharma and young wicketkeeper-batter Ryan Rickleton. The duo provided a blistering start in the last game against KKR, stitching a blistering opening partnership of 46 runs in just 5.2 overs. However, Rohit failed to convert his good start into a big knock, scoring 13 runs off 12 balls, with a six but his aggressive intent is going to play a crucial role for MI.

On the other hand, the young batter Ryan Rickleton smashed 62 runs off just 41 balls, with 4 fours and five sixes in the previous game against KKR. He played a vital role in helping MI chase down the easy target of 117 runs comfortably in just 12.5 overs to win the match by 8 wickets.

Middle-Order – Will Jacks, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, and Naman Dhir

MI’s middle order will start with the star number three batter Will Jacks, who is eager to repeat his IPL 2024 heroics but for a new franchise this year. He scored 16 runs off 17 balls, with a six in the last game against KKR. Jacks will aim to leave a mark with the bat in the upcoming game against LSG.

Following Will Jacks, the veteran batter Suryakumar Yadav will be there to bat at number four for MI in the game against LSG. SKY played an unbeaten and brilliant short cameo of 27 runs off just 9 balls, with three fours and two sixes. Later in the middle-order, young batters Tilak Varma and Naman Dhir will bat number five and number six to give stability to the middle-order.

All-Rounders – Hardik Pandya (C) and Mitchell Santner

Skipper Hardik Pandya and New Zealand star Mitchell Santner could form a brilliant all-rounder duo for MI in their next game against LSG. Pandya scalped a wicket at just 10 runs in his two overs in the previous game against KKR. On the other hand, Santner also picked a wicket with the ball, conceding 17 runs in 2.2 overs.

Besides that, Santner and Pandya could also produce some brilliant knocks with the bat for MI while batting in the middle order or the lower middle-order. So, they will be the perfect choices for MI to pick as all-rounders in the playing XI.

Bowlers – Deepak Chahar, Trent Boult, and Ashwani Kumar

With spin and pace support from Santner and Pandya, the core bowling attack of the Mumbai Indians might include three out-and-out medium pacers, Deepak Chahar, Trent Boult and last game’s star Ashwani Kumar. Notably, Ashwani Kumar just made his IPL debut in the previous game against the defending champions.

The Mohali youngster claimed a sensational four-wicket haul, picking 4 wickets at 24 runs in his 3 overs, winning the ‘Player of the Match award. Besides him, the veteran pacers Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar also scalped 1 and 2 wickets, respectively to bundle KKR at the score of just 116 runs in the first innings. So, this pace trio is expected to be there in the MI playing XI against LSG.
