IPL 2025: 3 reasons why SRH lost to LSG in Hyderabad clash

IPL 2025: 3 reasons why SRH lost to LSG in Hyderabad clash

Sunrisers Hyderabad lost their first game of the season against Lucknow Super Giants at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. The visitors, Lucknow Super Giants won the toss and elected to field first in match seven of IPL 2025. The decision to field first against the power-hitting batting line-up of SRH was risky. However, the visitors managed to get a decent start as they scalped Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan cheaply. Sunrisers posted just 191 runs for the loss of nine wickets in a batting paradise. Lucknow Super Giants were never bothered in their chase and reached 192 runs with 23 balls to spare in the 17th over. Nicholas Pooran and Mitchel Marsh had shut the doors for any chance of a comeback for the hosts early in the second innings. The win helped LSG climb up to the second position in the points table.

Here are three reasons which led to Sunrisers Hyderabad’s loss in their home fixture.

3. Top Order didn’t give the much-needed start

Sunrisers Hyderabad’s explosive top order didn’t perform to their reputation against Lucknow Super Giants. Opener Abhishek Sharma and new number three Ishan Kishan got out cheaply at 6 and 0 runs respectively. The early wickets didn’t help the hosts as they failed to hit the required acceleration to get to a giant total.

2. Toothless pace attack

Sunrisers Hyderabad’s bowlers haven’t been at their best this season. Much like their first game, the Pacers failed to set the tone. The trio of Pat Cummins, Mohammad Shami and Simarjeet Singh conceded runs at an average of 12 runs an over. The trio bowled 7 overs in total and scalped just one wicket. The pacers failed to put the Lucknow batters under any sort of pressure who scored runs freely at their will.

1. The impact player failed to make an Impact

Sunrisers Hyderabad introduced Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa as their impact player. However, the Aussie had a rather ominous evening as he conceded 46 runs in his quota of 4 overs. The Leggie didn’t get much assistance from the surface and was dispatched to the boundaries by Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran. Zampa even failed to create many wicket-taking chances and scalped just one wicket of Ayush Badoni.
