IPL 2025: 3 reasons why SRH lost to KKR

IPL 2025: 3 reasons why SRH lost to KKR

With a massive 80-run defeat against KKR, SRH faced their third consecutive defeat in the ongoing Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025). The orange outfits have now slipped to the 10th spot in the tournament standings. They have only one win and three defeats in their four games so far this season.

KKR posted 200 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. While chasing the target, SRH were bundled out at the score of 120 runs in 16.4 overs and lost the game by a big margin of 80 runs.

Three reasons why SRH lost to KKR in the 15th game of the tournament’s current season.

Over-Aggressive approach backfired

There was a lot of noise before the start of IPL 2025 that the SRH are aiming to go past 300+ total in 20 overs. But this over-aggressive approach of SRH has backfired miserably, especially in the last three games. They could post a big total of 286 runs only in the first game before struggling to score even 180 or 180+ totals.

The batting failures of SRH in the last three games have also reflected that they don’t seem to have any backup plan if their aggressive approach fails in any game. So, it can be seen as one of the major reasons behind SRH’s defeat against the defending champions, KKR.

Lack of batting depth in the lower middle order

SRH have a strong batting attack in their top and middle order but both the lineups have failed in the last few matches. The batting seems quite good till the star wicketkeeper-batter Heinrich Klaasen and young batter Aniket Verma. But what follows later is quite concerning for the last edition’s runners-up.

Here, we’re talking about the lower middle order of SRH which looks quite weaker compared to the other teams. They don’t have any all-rounder who can contribute with some crucial runs in the lower middle order. During their batting failure against KKR, it was also one of the reasons for SRH’s downfall.

Bowlers failed to capitalise on a good start.

After opting to bowl first, SRH got a good start from the bowlers as they dismissed both the KKR openers at the score of just 16 runs in 2.3 overs. But they couldn’t capitalize on this brilliant start and it resulted in KKR batters bashing SRH bowlers in all corners of the ground.

Eventually, KKR smashed 200 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in the allotted 20 overs courtesy of two half-centuries scored by Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Venkatesh Iyer; they smashed 50 and 60 runs off just 32 and 29 balls, respectively. So, the bowling failure also happened to become one of the major reasons for their debacle against KKR.
