IPL 2025: 3 reasons why Mumbai Indians lost to Royal Challengers Bengaluru

IPL 2025: 3 reasons why MI lost to RCB

In the Indian Premier League 2025, Match 19, Royal Challengers Bengaluru dominated by defeating the Mumbai Indians by a margin of 12 runs.  They continue to hold third position in the standings with six points after their third victory of the season. Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar knock helped the team to reach the score of 221 runs.

Even though Hardik Pandya and Tilak Verma stood strong and thought of chasing the target, RCB bowlers did not have a single chance to get on their nerves. Mumbai Indians are now four games behind in the season.  This squad has lost all of its away games thus far.  MI is now in seventh place in the standings with just one victory and two points in five games.

1. No good score from Top Order:

The middle order has helped the team in certain games, while the top order has not done so much.  In the run chase against RCB, Rohit Sharma looked terrific early on, hitting some classic fours and sixes but got out on 17 runs failing the team to give a start.  Will Jacks and Ryan Rickelton also struggled.  While Jacks played 18 balls and scored just 22 runs before getting out to Krunal Pandya. With Suryakumar Yadav batting down the order he attempted to attack the RCB bowlers but his batting was too slow during an anchor inning.

2. Failed in bowling attack:

Mumbai Indians fans were thrilled that their team’s top bowler, Jasprit Bumrah was back in the starting lineup. Jasprit was the only bowler who bowled with an economy of less than 10.   Trent Boult had a bad day, giving up 57 runs in four overs despite capturing two significant wickets, Deepak Chahar fell for 29 in two, and Hardik Pandya went for 45 in four.

3. Losing wickets in death over:

The Mumbai Indians lost this run-fest of a match because they lost three extremely important wickets in the last overs.  Despite playing brilliant innings, Tilak Verma and Hardik Pandya were removed at a crucial part of the game. Both Tilak Verma and Hardik Pandya were taking the game deep but lost their wicket in the death overs.
