IPL 2025: 3 key reasons why Sunrisers Hyderabad lost to Gujarat Titans

Sunrisers Hyderabad lost their fourth consecutive fixture against Gujrat Titans on matchday 19 of the Indian Premier League at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. The visitors, Gujrat Titans won the toss and elected to field first. Gujrat Titans bowlers backed up the decision of their skipper with a solid performance. Mohammad Siraj decimated Hyderbad’s power-hitting batting line-up as he scalped 4 wickets – Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head, Ankit Verma and Simranjeet Singh. Gujrat Titans won the match by 7 seven wickets with 20 balls to spare, courtesy of Shubman Gill’s quickfire 61 runs and Washington Sunder and Rutherford’s 49 and 35 runs each. Sunrisers Hyderabad sit at the bottom of the current standings having lost 4 of their opening 5 fixtures.

Here are three reasons which contributed to Sunriser’s loss against Gujrat Titans.

3. Toothless bowling attack

Mohamad Shami

Barring Mohamad Shami‘s initial powerplay overs, Sunrisers Hyderabad bowlers never looked lethal against Gujrat batters. The spinners failed miserably to contain Gujrat batters in the middle overs who scored at will. All the bowlers were taken to the cleaners and were dispatched all over the park. Sunrisers need to urgently address their bowling woes before it gets too late.

2. No show from batters

Abhishek Sharma

The most frightening batting line-up of the Indian Premier League gave no show against Gujrat Titans. Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head and Ishan Kishan departed after getting decent starts. The middle order tried to instill some fight but couldn’t revive the innings. The lower middle order also failed to make an impactful end in the death overs.

1. The impact player failed to make an impact.

Simranjeet Singh

Simranjeet Singh was brought in as the impact substitute for Sunrisers Hyderabad towards the end of their batting innings. He was brought in to shoulder the responsibility of saving the runs for his side. However, he failed to prove his worth as he conceded 20 runs in an over. Pat Cummins didn’t bring him into attack for the rest of the match.
