IPL 2024: Predicting Delhi Capitals’ Playing XI for their clash against Mumbai Indians

In this article, we will discuss the IPL 2024 Predicting Delhi Capitals’ Playing XI for their clash against Mumbai Indians. DC will be up against Mumbai Indians. Delhi Capitals (DC) will be up against Mumbai Indians (MI) in the 19th match of the IPL 2024. Both teams have had a similar journey in the league till now. While DC have lost three of their four matches, MI have lost all their three matches. The match between the two sides will happen at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The home side has a good record at the venue. Given their poor run in the season so far, it might be their best chance to win in Mumbai. The challenge is cut out for the visiting side given their poor form.

MI has a good set of players though they have not been able to perform as a team. At the top of the order, they have the likes of world class batters like Prithvi Shaw, David Warner, and Mitchell Marsh. In the middle order, they have the likes of Rishabh Pant, Tristan Stubbs, Abhishek Porel, Axar Patel, and so on. Their bowling lineup has some good names like Ishant Sharma, Anrich Nortje, Khaleel Ahmed, Mukesh Kumar, and others. In addition to it, they have some talented players like Praveen Dubey, Vicky Ostwal, Lungi Ngidi, and so on.

DC needs to do well in the upcoming matches. Their results have been poor so far with many matches being one-sided. While they did beat CSK by 20 runs, the 2020 finalists have been averaging otherwise. Against PBKS, they lost by 6 wickets. Following the first loss, DC lost the second match against RR. In their latest match, DC conceded 272 runs, just 5 runs less than the highest total in the history of the IPL. They need to do well in all facets of the game.

Here is the possible playing XI of DC against MI:

Top order – David Warner, Prithvi Shaw, and Mitchell Marsh

David Warner Prithvi Shaw and Mitchell Marsh

At the top, DC has three aggressive batters. It was the pair of David Warner and Prithvi Shaw that went hard at the top and laid a good foundation in the game vs CSK that helped them to be ahead in the game. Both the batters know each other and complement each other well. The left-right combination works well and is beneficial for the side. While Warner usually continues to play big knocks, Shaw banners the bowlers for fun early at the top.

Mitchell Marsh will bat at 3 for DC. While he is a genuine opener in recent times, Marsh can bat at 3 as well. His form has been decent, and DC would be hoping for him to come good. If necessary, he can roll his arms over and break partnerships. The aggressive top 3 can give their side a good start. But consistency is key for them. They need to go hard at the bowlers and do not resort to defensive batting.

Middle Order – Rishabh Pant (C & WK), Tristan Stubbs, Abhishek Porel, and Axar Patel

In the middle order, DC has a lot of talented batters. Rishabh Pant is back in form by scoring a fifty and a good knock in the matches against CSK and KKR respectively. He will be crucial in the middle overs for DC to post a good total on the board. To follow him would be Tristan Stubbs who has played fine cameos for DC in a couple of matches. The South African batter has been doing the job lower down the order and probably needs support after him.

To follow him would be Abhishek Porel. The youngster played a fine cameo in the game against PBKS, where a potential 150 total was dragged to 170. Since then, he has not been able to play a good knock. He needs to be fired in the upcoming game. Axar Patel has been out of form as a batter. DC relies a lot on his finishing to take them to a good total. The experienced batter needs to step up given the position of DC in the points table at this stage.

Bowlers – Ishant Sharma, Khaleel Ahmed, Anrich Nortje, Mukesh Kumar, and Praveen Dubey (Impact substitute)

Ishant Sharma Khaleel Ahmed Anrich Nortje Mukesh Kumar and Praveen Dubey

DC has a good bowling unit. In the powerplay overs, Khaleel Ahmed usually takes the new ball along with Ishant Sharma and Anrich Nortje bowling the second fiddle. While Khaleel is a wicket taking bowler, Ishant and Nortje can chip in with an over or two. If batters fail to connect the ball, they might fall to the trap of the bowlers. In the middle overs phase, DC has Mukesh Kumar and Axar as their options. They will be missing Kuldeep Yadav badly.

Mukesh might come in the second half of the innings and execute wide yorkers and Yorkers. While his focus is mostly on stopping runs, batters might get dismissed to score runs. Axar will be handy with his spin bowling. At the death, DC will have the services of Mukesh who will be assisted by Nortje and Ishant. They have been decent in the last 4 overs and would love to improve their performance in the match against MI.

DC’s predicted XI vs MI: David Warner, Prithvi Shaw, Mitchell Marsh, Rishabh Pant (C & WK), Tristan Stubbs, Abhishek Porel, Axar Patel, Mukesh Kumar, Ishant Sharma, Anrich Nortje, Khaleel Ahmed, Praveen Dubey (Impact substitute)
