IPL 2024: Predicting CSK’s Playing XI for their clash against RR

In this article, we will discuss the IPL 2024 Predicting CSK’s Playing XI for their clash against RR. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) are set to clash in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) Match 61. Both teams are yet to seal a playoff berth, but the Royals are just one win away from doing so. On the other hand, CSK’s chances are in jeopardy after their recent loss to Gujarat Titans by 35 runs.

The five-time champions‘ road to playoffs was clear before their match against GT – just needed to win the remaining three matches. Currently fourth in the points table, CSK can now secure a maximum of 16 points with only two matches (including against RR) remaining in the league stage.

Even if they win those two matches, the net run rate may come to hamper their qualification chances. So, they should win against a dominant RR keeping the run rate in mind. Considering CSK is hosting the match at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium, they have a slight edge.

Here is Chennai Super Kings’ predicted playing XI against RR in the IPL 2024 clash:

Openers: Ajinkya Rahane (Impact Player), Rachin Ravindra

Ajinkya Rahane Impact Player Rachin Ravindra

It’s high time for veteran cricketer Ajinkya Rahane to step up. He got ample opportunities this season but never managed to contribute significantly with the bat. Like in the last game against GT, Rahane is expected to come in as an Impact Player in the opening role. He needs to play aggressively like in the previous editions otherwise it will seriously affect the overall performance of the team.

Rachin Ravindra returned to the team in the last match against GT after missing a few matches due to poor form. Unfortunately, the left-hander could not make a grand comeback as he was run out in the very first over. The Kiwi batter was expected to play a pivotal role in Devon Conway’s absence but failed to live up to expectations.

Middle-order: Ruturaj Gaikwad (c), Daryl Mitchell, Shivam Dube, MS Dhoni (wk)

Ruturaj Gaikwad had a forgettable outing in the last match as he was dismissed for a 3-ball duck. However, the CSK skipper has been in fine form this season, scoring 541 runs at an average of 54.10 and a strike rate of 145.82. Daryl Mitchell has been under fire for his poor run of form. But the Kiwi batter silenced all his critics with a stunning 34-ball 63 against GT, a knock that breathed some life into CSK’s innings.

While Mitchell’s return to form has shown promising signs in CSK’s middle order, Shivam Dube’s dip in form after being named in India’s World Cup squad is a major concern. He recently registered two successive golden ducks and failed to get CSK through in the match against GT. Keeper-batter MS Dhoni will bat in the lower middle order and aim to deliver a fiery finish in those final overs.

All-rounders: Moeen Ali, Ravindra Jadeja Mitchell Santner

CSK are blessed with quality spin all-rounders. Mitchell Santner is a master in bowling economically while Ravindra Jadeja has the knack of picking up crucial wickets. CSK are not utilizing Moeen Ali’s bowling prowess much but does his job with the bat.

With the match being played at the Chepauk Stadium, the spinners have a big role to play and the trio will look to enjoy an effective outing. All three will bat in the middle or lower order, helping CSK score at an aggressive rate.

Bowlers: Shardul Thakur, Tushar Deshpande, Simarjeet Singh

Shardul Thakur Tushar Deshpande Simarjeet Singh

Shardul Thakur was highly impressive in the last match against GT, conceding just 25 runs in four overs when the opposition scored 230+ runs. He can also chip in with crucial runs to give CSK more batting depth. Tushar Deshpande is in fine form this season.

Operating with the new ball, the right-arm pacer often provides early breakthroughs. Deshpande also shone against GT, picking two wickets at an economy of 8.20. Simarjeet Singh had a forgettable outing in the last match as he conceded 60 runs in four overs without taking a wicket.

CSK XI: Rachin Ravindra, Ruturaj Gaikwad (c), Daryl Mitchell, Shivam Dube, Moeen Ali, Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni (wk), Mitchell Santner, Shardul Thakur, Tushar Deshpande, Simarjeet Singh

Probable Impact Substitute: Ajinkya Rahane
