IPL 2023: Top 3 value buys for Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians is a side that is known for its great purchases and the number of times, they have brought players at almost base price and those players have become a huge part of the side going forward.

The likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Ishan Kishan come to mind when we talk about the value buys made by the five-time champions in their Indian Premier League history. This season Mumbai Indians purchased 8 players and some of them have already left a mark at the side’s outcome in games. Let’s take a look at the

1. Piyush Chawla

Piyush Chawla, now 34, appears to have much more to offer to the Mumbai Indians in 2023 Indian Premier League. The seasoned spinner has left his imprint for the five-time champions and is paying back the franchise’s faith in him during the auction. The leg-spinner has taken 7 wickets in 5 games, including a match-winning stretch of 3 for 22 on Tuesday in New Delhi.

Mumbai Indians lacked a clinical spinner last season since they didn’t have the likes of Krunal Pandya and Rahul Chahar in their squad. They made a sensible buy which offers them a lot of experience and Chawla is the kind of bowler who can come in  handy on tricky pitches which Mumbai Indians would face in Chennai, Delhi and Jaipur. He was bought for just INR 50 Lakh which is a steal and can be part of the franchise for a good number of years if he can keep up his fitness.

2. Nehal Wadhera

Who knew that Nehal Wadhera who would be purchased by the franchise for just INR 20 Lakh would make a small yet massive impact in their first game against Royal Challengers Bangalore.Nehal Wadhera was facing Karan Sharma, who was bowling the 14th over of the game.

In the same over, Nehal Wadhera stepped in to take Karan Sharma and blasted two successive deliveries for huge sixes. The sixer on the fourth delivery, which was the enormous and massive 101-meter six, absolutely blew the crowd away. The crowd cheered this shot, which was recorded as one of the longest sixes in the IPL 2023 season.

3. Duan Jansen

The South African team of Duan and Marco Jansen is the first twin pair to compete in the Indian Premier League’s history. The South African twin pair set a new record by becoming the first twin duo to ever play in IPL history when Duan Jansen made his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians during their game against the Kolkata Knight Riders.

Duan’s Indian Premier League debut was not particularly memorable as he let up 53 runs in his quota of four overs but was able to dismiss the in-form Rinku Singh. Duan who just got bought for INR 20 Lakh would aim to advance if he had more playing time this season and displayed some of his potential with the ball with adequate management and training.
