The league stage of the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League 2023 has ended with an amazing clash between the defending champions Gujarat Titans and the crowd favorite Royal Challengers Bangalore. The tournament is now set to enter its knock-out stage as the four teams for the playoffs have been decided. 

This edition of the tournament was thrilling in a lot of ways, one of those was that the top four for the playoffs were decided just in the very last league match of the tournament. Meanwhile, there have been some amazing batting and bowling performances throughout the season from the youngsters and the veterans of the game as well. 

With that said, here in this listicle, we’ll have a look at the top three best batters from the league stage of the ongoing 16th edition of the Indian Premier League.

3. Faf du Plessis

The Proteas veteran Faf du Plessis ended his run in IPL 2023 and the league stage of the tournament with the orange cap on his head. He accumulated 730 runs in 14 innings of the 14 matches he played with a brilliant batting average of 56.15. He also smashed eight half-centuries with the wood which is probably the second-highest number of half-centuries by any batter in a single edition of IPL after David Warner’s record of nine half-centuries in a season. 

Currently, the 38-year-old right-hander is placed in the top spot of the leaderboard of the highest run-scorers in the current edition of the tournament. He finished the league stage as the best batter in the tournament despite his team’s elimination from the contention for playoffs.

2. Shubman Gill

The young GT opener Shubman Gill has emerged as an outstanding sensation in the Indian Premier League 2023. He impressed everyone with his stellar performances consistently throughout the tournament. Gill has scored 680 runs in 14 innings of the 14 matches he played in the league stage for Gujarat Titans. 

He has scored these runs with a commendable average of 56.66 having two centuries and four half-centuries to his name. Notably, the young batter has also a chance to surpass Faf du Plessis in the race of orange cap as he has another match to play in the first qualifier for GT against the four-time champions Chennai Super Kings.

The former RCB skipper and batting superstar, Virat Kohli has made an amazing comeback in the form of IPL with another amazing season on his credit. He ended his century drought in IPL from the last couple of years in the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Later on, he amazed everyone with second consecutive century in the last league match against the defending champions Gujarat Titans. 

Kohli ended up the league stage as the third leading run-scorer in the current 16th edition of the Indian Premier League. The 34-year-old scored 639 runs in 14 innings of his all 14 appearances in the league stage with an excellent average of 53.25 having two centuries and six half-centuries with the wood.
