India’s top 3 highest scores in ODIs against Pakistan

An India-Pakistan match is always a high-intensity encounter as it is filled with a lot of emotions both on and off the field. The fierce battle between the two neighbors is one of the best rivalries in any sport. The two teams have not met in a bilateral series since 2012 due to security concerns, adding further spice to their clash in major multi-national tournaments.

Over the years, India-Pakistan matches have produced numerous memorable moments that never fade from the hearts of true cricket fans. After a long wait, we got to witness another face-off between them in the ongoing 2023 Asia Cup. Their first match was a washout, but thanks to the controversial Reserve Day, we got to see a full game in the Super Fours on Monday, but a one-sided game as the Men in Blue dominated throughout. India posted a massive score of 356/2 and bowled out the Men in Green for a paltry 128.

But was this India’s highest score in ODIs against Pakistan? Let’s check it out in this article. Here are India’s three highest scores in ODIs against Pakistan.

3. 349/7 (2004)

India vs Pakistan 2004

In the first ODI of India’s tour of Pakistan in 2004, the Men in Blue recorded their then-second-highest team total in Karachi. India’s top-four batters shined against a lethal Pakistan bowling attack with half-centuries from opener Virender Sehwag and Rahul Dravid. But Dravid fell short of a well-deserved hundred by just one run. Middle-order batter Mohammad Kaif also contributed with a 56-ball 46 to guide India to a massive score of 349/7. In reply, the Men in Green fought hard but fell just 5 runs short.

2. 356/ 2 (2023)

India vs Pakistan 2023

With Virat Kohli and KL Rahul’s brilliant batting performances in the Super Fours of the 2023 Asia Cup, India created several records, one of which was the joint-highest team total against arch-rivals Pakistan. Unbeaten centuries from Kohli (122) and Rahul (111) guided India to a massive total of 356/2. Their 233-run partnership was alone enough to defeat the entire Pakistan unit, who were bowled out for a paltry score of 128 in 32 overs.

1. 356/9 (2005)

India vs Pakistan 2005

India recorded their highest-ever ODI score against Pakistan in the second match at Visakhapatnam in 2005. On the back of then captain MS Dhoni’s scintillating century (148 off 123 balls), the Men in Blue posted a massive first-innings total of 356/9. There were valuable contributions from opener Virender Sehwag (74 off 40 balls) and Rahul Dravid (52 off 59 balls). In reply, Abdul Razzaq (88 off 93) and Mohammad Yousuf (71 off 56) fought hard, but it wasn’t enough for the visitors as they got bowled out for 298.
