India’s 3 successful experiments from ODI series against West Indies

The 3-match ODI series between India and West Indies came to an end with the Men in Blue winning the series 2-1. The series witnessed multiple experiments from the Indian team management which didn’t work in their favor initially, but the final match of the series finally turned out to be a successful experiment for them.

Many fans and cricket experts criticized the team management for experimenting with the ODI lineup at a crucial stage when the two major events Asia Cup and ODI World Cup are not too far away. But it didn’t bother India’s head coach Rahul Dravid and he decided to stick with his decision. On that note, we will take a look at India’s 3 successful experiments from the ODI series against West Indies.

1. Ishan Kishan playing as an opener

Ishan Kishan

India tried a brand new opening pair of Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan for all the 3 matches in the ODI series against Windies. It won’t be wrong to say that Gill has almost cemented his place in the team as an opener. On the other hand, Kishan hasn’t played many ODI matches, but his performance in the series might help him get a permanent place on the team. The experiment didn’t work in the first two matches, but both of them stitched a massive 143-run opening stand in the 3rd match.

2. Mukesh Kumar bowling in the powerplay

Indian team rested their premium fast bowlers Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Shami to manage their workload. They gave the chance to Delhi Capitals’ star fast bowler Mukesh Kumar, who also has performed brilliantly in domestic cricket. He produced a decent performance in the series and took 4 wickets in 3 matches. His performance in the 3rd match was phenomenal as he took 3 wickets while conceding only 30 runs in 7 overs. He might be one of the contenders to get a place in the ODI squad as a third bowling option.

3. Winning the series without Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli

Indian cricket team’s senior players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli didn’t play the last two matches. Both were included in the 1st match, but Kohli didn’t get to play a single ball. After India lost the 2nd match, there was a lot of fuss that the team can’t win a single match without Rohit and Kohli. However, the team bounced back brilliantly in the final match and won the match without the two senior players.
