England’s top 3 batters across formats in 2023

After the highs in 2022 England team witnessed a sharp decline in 2023, especially in limited-overs cricket. They finished in the 7th position at the ODI World Cup and barely managed to qualify for the 2025 Champions Trophy. However, going into the next year they would like to focus on the positives and, in this article, we will take a look at the Top 3 batters for England across formats in 2023. 

Harry Brook

The young right-hander from Yorkshire, Harry Brook, was one of the big positives for England particularly in Test cricket. His aggressive outlook was a treat to watch in test cricket though he could not live up to the expectations in ODI format. In the latter part of 2023, Brook delivered some impressive performances in T20 cricket which has given the English fans renewed hope for a better outing from the defending T20 champions in the next T20 World Cup in 2024. 

Dawid Malan

The left-handed top-order batter had a brilliant time in ODI cricket in 2023 and relished batting in the 50-over cricket. Malan played 18 One-Day internationals this year and scored 995 runs at a magnificent average of 58.52. The experienced Englishman smashed 4 centuries in this format along with 5 half-centuries. However, he would be disappointed because he could not convert this fantastic form into match-winning knocks in the ODI World Cup. 

Joe Root

A discussion about English batters is incomplete without mentioning the former England captain Joe Root. It was not a gold-standard year for Root but he was still among the best for England. In 27 innings Root garnered 1102 runs at an average of 44.08 but he would have wanted to gather a lot more. In test cricket, he was vital for England in the Ashes which they managed to draw after trailing 2-0 in the series. The English fans would expect Joe Root to get back to his ultimate best in 2024.
