Duleep Trophy 2024: Top 3 players to watch out for in Team C

The first round of the Duleep Trophy 2024 is set to commence on September 5 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The domestic red-ball tournament will feature some international players and budding stars from across the country.

With the Bangladesh Test series around the corner, the tournament holds significance for both senior and young players looking to cement their place in the Indian Test squad. The Bangla Tigers will tour India from September 22 for a two-match Test and three-match T20I series. Having said that, let’s take a look at three players who are likely to perform well from Team C in the upcoming Duleep Trophy.

Here are the top three players to watch out for in Team C

3. Umran Malik

Umran Malik made his ODI and T20I debut in 2022 but failed to establish himself in either format. Known for his express pace, the Jammu & Kashmir pacer will be a great asset to the Indian Test team in the future. Although he can bowl at speeds exceeding 150 km/h consistently, his struggle to maintain the run flow is a major concern. The right-arm speedster will aim to have an effective outing in the Duleep Trophy.

2. Ruturaj Gaikwad

Despite having great talent, Ruturaj Gaikwad could not shine as expected in Indian colors. He has not made his Test debut yet. Notably, Gaikwad will lead the Team C in the upcoming domestic tournament. He was the captain of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL 2024 and managed to lead the team from the front. The Maharashtra cricketer will look to do the same here.

1. Rajat Patidar

Rajat Patidar made his Test debut in the series against England earlier this year. He was expected to play a crucial role in the middle order but failed to do so, scoring just 63 runs in six innings. Patidar has been impressive in domestic tournaments. He needs a successful outing to catch the attention of the national team selectors to return to the Test team.
