David Warner’s top 3 performances outside of Australia

As David Warner bids farewell to test cricket there is no debate on the contributions of the dominant Australian opener in the last decade or so. He has been a match-winner for the Kangaroos in all three formats of the game and in this article, we will take a look at his top 3 batting performances outside of Australia. 

#1. 145 vs South Africa, 2014

Big players rise to the big occasions and that has been the hallmark of David Warner’s glorious international career. This knock against South Africa is one of his best knocks outside Australia and it came at Cape Town in 2014. It was the third and last test of the series which was a decider where David Warner stepped up for his team with the bat. He scored 145 runs in the second innings off just 156 balls which helped Australia in posting a challenging target on the board for the hosts. 

#2. 135 vs South Africa, 2014

A century in the first innings of the same test match against the same opposition. The Australian captain Michael Clarke won the toss and opted to bat first. David Warner was crucial for the Kangaroos in laying a solid foundation in the first innings as he played a brilliant knock to take the pressure off. He partnered with Michael Clarke who himself scored 161 runs and guided Australia to a handsome total of 494 runs in the first innings which gave them an advantage in the match. 

#3. 133 vs Pakistan, 2014

2014 was a pretty successful year for David Warner, particularly in test cricket, as he hit multiple centuries in away conditions. This is one of those centuries that he smashed on away tours. Warner showed his class against Pakistan in the first match of the test series in Dubai but unfortunately, this knock came in a losing cause. However, the left-handed opener impressed everyone with his ability to tackle tricky opposition bowling units on their home turf.
