Chris Tremlett was born today, who established himself in the England Test side during the 2010-11 Ashes

Christopher Timoty Tremlett was born on the 2nd September 1981 and went onto play for England. When he made his debut, he was one of the few bowlers who with his height and extra pace could trouble the batters.

Hailed as a player with great promise, Chris Tremlett saw his career hampered by constant injuries. When he was fit he saw his place in the side being usurped by some of the other bowlers.

At the height of his playing career, Tremlett had to battle with James Anderson, Simon Jones, Ryan Sidebottom, and Matthew Hoggard for a place in the team. The emergence of Andrew Flintoff as a genuine talent saw Tremlett having to wait for his turn.

Chris Tremlett: Fast bowler with an unfulfilled career

One of the tallest fast bowlers in the early 2000’s Chris Tremlett made his first class debut in 2000. The tall pacer had to wait for 5 years to make his international debut when he played against Bangladesh in Nottingham. In his very first game he picked 4/32 which was his best ever ODI figures.

The Test debut came two years later during the Lord’s game versus India. The match ended in a draw as MS Dhoni and Sreesanth batted with resolute determination to save the game. In his debut innings he picked 1 wicket but in the 2nd second innings he got the big wickets of VVS Laxman, Rahul Dravid and Indian pacer Zaheer Khan. Curiously, Tremlett’s only T20I game was against India during the 2007 World Cup in South Africa.

The biggest moment of his career in Test cricket came during the 2010/11 Ashes. Chris Tremlett used his pace and bounce to trouble the Aussie batters and picked 8 wickets in the game. In the first innings Tremlett got just 3 wickets but in the 2nd innings the pacer picked 5/87 from his 24 overs. Despite his heroics England lost the game by 267 runs as Ryan Harris 6/47 from his 11 overs.
