Chennai faced off with Rajasthan Royals in the group stage and the Super Kings completely decimated the bowling attack of the inaugural IPL champions. Chennai ended up with 246 runs in the first innings with the help of a jaw-dropping century from Murali Vijay.

Their second-best batting performance came in the very second match in the history of the IPL. Chennai Super Kings clashed against Kings XI Punjab in the second match of the inaugural season in 2008. Michael Hussey smashed 116 runs off just 54 deliveries to carry Chennai to 240 runs in the first innings. Eventually, the Super Kings won the match by 33 runs and Hussey was awarded the player of the match for his outstanding batting effort.
