Champions Trophy 2025: Predicting New Zealand’s Playing XI for their clash against Bangladesh

Champions Trophy 2025 Predicting New Zealand's Playing XI for their clash against Bangladesh

New Zealand will play their second match in Group A of the Champions Trophy against Bangladesh. Both sides come into the game on the back of different results. The Kiwis led by Mitchell Santner easily swatted aside Pakistan’s challenge to win the first match. If the Kiwis happen to win against Bangladesh, they will book their spot in the final four.

Najmul Shanto and his Bangladeshi side met India in their first match of the Champions Trophy 2025. Barring the batting efforts of Towhid Hridoy and Jaker Ali, Bangladesh had a fairly forgettable encounter. It is a huge game for the Tigers because a Monday loss will halt their campaign early.

Here is the likely New Zealand XI vs Bangladesh

Top order –

Devon Conway

New Zealand opener Devon Conway and Will Young  didn’t have a great start to the Champions Trophy as he was out cheaply against Pakistan. The left-handed batter has a lot of class and talent and will want to prove that his failure in the first game was a minor blip. Will Young became the first centurion of the tournament. The 32-year-old scored 107 crucial runs for his side to help the Kiwis reach 320 on the board.

Middle Order –

Kane Williamson

Former skipper and one of the best batters in the world, Kane Williamson endured a rare failure in the first match. The 34-year-old has been in great form coming into the tournament and will want to regain his run-scoring in a key game. Daryl Mitchell has always been New Zealand’s most dependable player with the bat and ball. Mitchell will be a key figure in the game against Bangladesh especially against the spinners. Tom Latham who was struggling for form not too long ago seems to have found his edge with the bat. Latham scored a match-winning ton against Pakistan and was given the player of the match.

Lower-order-

Glenn Phillips

Glenn Phillips is slowly becoming the most feared player in the New Zealand side. The 28-year-old is not only an explosive batter but also more than capable with his off-spin. When he isn’t scoring runs to upset the opposition bowlers, Phillips takes a blinder of catches in the field. Michael Bracewell and Mitchell Santner add the much-needed spine towards the end of the innings with the bat. Both Bracewell and Santner are without a doubt the main spin options for their side and can trouble any batter on their day.

Tail enders –

Nathan Smith

Nathan Smith has made an immediate impact since his debut for New Zealand in international cricket. Smith bowled just two overs against Pakistan but got the key wicket of Salma Agha for 42. Matt Henry was his usual self with the ball with figures of 2/25 from 7.2 overs. William O Rourke continued to show his talents with three wickets in the last game to add to his growing fame across the world.
