India played their first match of the ongoing Champions Trophy 2025 against Bangladesh in Dubai on February 20. The Men in Blue convincingly won the contest by six wickets with 3.3 overs still to be bowled. Shubman Gill was named Player of the Match for his match-winning 101-run knock.
Bangladesh put 228 runs on the scoreboard after opting to bat first. India’s star pacer claimed a magnificent five-wicket haul to help India restrict Bangladesh to a low score. However, there were a few things which the Indian team might look to improve before heading towards their 2nd match which is against their arch-rivals Pakistan.
Here are the 3 mistakes India did during their clash against Bangladesh:
1. Let Bangladesh score runs after dismissing their five batters on 35
Indian bowlers started strongly after dismissing five batters of Bangladesh on just 35 runs but after that they let them put a total of 228 runs on the scoreboard. Towhid Hridoy smashed a century and stitched a 154-run stand with Jaker Ali for the sixth wicket. The reason behind it could be Rohit Sharma not using his bowlers properly in the middle overs as Harshit Rana didn’t even complete his 10-over quota.
2. Multiple catch drops
Indian players dropped a lot of catches and let the Bangladeshi batters settle in the middle. Skipper Rohit himself dropped a sitter and avoided Axar Patel’s much-deserving hat-trick. Apart from him, Hardik Pandya also dropped an easy catch. Wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul took two brilliant catches but dropped an easy stumping chance.
3. Batters throwing wickets
Indian openers Shubman Gill and Rohit provided India a strong start during the chase. However, Rohit couldn’t keep his calm and attempted a poor shot. He lost his wicket on the score of 41 runs. Virat Kohli threw his wicket two while he was batting on 22 runs. Rahul played a poor shot when he was on nine runs, however, he was lucky as the fielder dropped the catch.
