This performance came in a situation that was all gloom and doom for England. Their World Cup campaign was over but they needed to avoid the biggest tragedy in the history of English cricket, finishing last in the World Cup and not qualifying for the Champions Trophy.

England lost a couple of wickets in the middle overs and their innings could have derailed had Ben Stokes not played this crucial knock. He took the Dutch bowling attack by surprise and played with an aggressive approach. Along with Chris Woakes he took England to a huge total. In the end, England won the match comfortably keeping their Champions Trophy hopes alive.
