Azhar Ali’s top 3 performances in Test Cricket

Cricket in the modern generation does not really boast of Test match specialists. There are very few Test specialists operating currently. However, in this article, we will throw some light on one such Test specialist who was a very significant player for his team. We are talking about the former Pakistan captain Azhar Ali. Moving ahead the focus will be on his top 3 performances in Test cricket.

1. 302* vs West Indies, 2016

A triple century is a special and very rare achievement for a batter. Scoring a triple century takes a lot of perseverance, resilience, and determination to put in the hard yards. Azhar Ali achieved this feat once in his career, in 2016, when he scored an unbeaten 302 runs against West Indies in Dubai. He smashed this triple century in the first innings on a batting track that assisted his potential. This knock helped Pakistan reach a massive total in the first innings which gave them a head start in the contest.

2. 226 vs Bangladesh, 2015

The former Pakistan captain scored two double centuries in his Test career and this was the first double century for him in Test cricket. Pakistan played a 2-match Test series in Bangladesh in 2015 and the first Test ended in a draw. As a result of that draw the second Test became a must-win encounter for Pakistan. Azhar Ali rose to the occasion and scored this double century in the first innings. His 226-run knock became a major reason behind Pakistan’s massive victory in the second Test.

3. 205* vs Australia, 2016

The previous two knocks were played against slightly weaker teams but this one came against the mighty Aussies in their backyard. Scoring an unbeaten double hundred in the Boxing Day Test at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground shows the sheer brilliance of the player. Azhar Ali would probably rate this knock as his best because of the circumstances under which it was played and the opposition that it was played against. Australia in the end won the match by an innings and 18 runs but Azhar Ali’s unbeaten 205 runs gave Pakistan a chance to fight in the second innings.
