In match number six of the Asia Cup 2023, the Indian team suffered a thrilling loss to the Bangladesh team by 6 runs in a match that was a dead rubber. The Indian team have already qualified for the finals of the finals and will be facing the Sri Lankan team on October 17. However, the Indian team made five changes in their playing XI but their casual approach throughout the game was evident to all.
But the Bangladesh team showed sheer grit and determination at the time when they were bowling and defending the modest total of 266 runs. Let us look at the top three talking points from the India vs. Bangladesh clash:
#1. Shardul Thakur’s bowling performance
Shardul Thakur has been one of the revelations for the Indian team over the years. Especially in the year 2023, the star India all-rounder has been in a different league of his own. Shardul in the match also showed his prowess when the all-rounder took three wickets. The 31-year-old showed extreme control with the new ball where he got the wickets of opener Tanzid Hasan and Anamul Haque in his first.
Later there was a partnership between skipper Shakib Al Hasan and Towhid Hridoy then the India skipper summoned Shardul back and he picked the wicket of Shakib to break the partnership. Despite being expensive the 31-year-old ended the match with bowling figures of 3/65.
#2. Shubman Gill’s master class
When everyone struggled in a chase Bangladesh bowlers on the top right from ball one. The batting lineup literally crumbled under pressure courtesy of some brilliant new bowling from Tanzid Hasan and then their spin bowlers restricted the run scoring. But Shubman Gill, irrespective of all the wickets falling around him held one end and raised to a brilliant century. Shubman scored a brilliant 121 runs off 133 deliveries.
#3. Shakib Al Hasan’s captaincy
One must appreciate the way Shakib managed his resources as well as kept on shuffling his spinner depending on the conditions. The Bangladesh skipper even made sure that he rotated himself as well as other spinners based on the Indian batters and even introduced pace in between to break the momentum of Indian batters.
