Star India leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal is 32 years old on July 22. The Haryana player made his way to the Indian team after playing 33 First Class and 129 List A games. Apart from this, before playing for India, his IPL journey started with the likes of Mumbai Indians (2011-2013) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (2014-2021). Chahal made his India debut in 2016.
The Jind-born is yet to play Test cricket but has plenty of white-ball cricket for India. In ODIs, he has played 72 games and has 121 wickets. On the other hand, in 75 T20Is, he has 91 wickets. However, he is yet to play a T20 World Cup game. Meanwhile, on the occasion of his birthday, let’s have at his top spells in T20I cricket.
Yuzvendra Chahal’s Top Three T20I spells
1. 25/6 against England in 2017
In the series decider of the three-match series, Chahal took six wickets on what used to be his home ground in the IPL, i.e. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore. Meanwhile, batting first, the home team reached 202/6 with Yuvraj Singh (63), MS Dhoni (56), and Yuvraj Singh (27) contributing to the cause.
In reply, the Three Lions lost the wicket of Sam Billings to Chahal. However, the team recovered well from this and were at 119/2 at one stage. At this stage, Chahal took five more wickets in the next few overs to ensure India won the game comfortably by 75 runs.
2. 23/4 against Sri Lanka in 2017
Later in the same year, Sri Lanka played a return, all-format series in India after hosting their neighbours a few months back. Meanwhile, in the first T20I, the home team amassed 180/3, thanks to KL Rahul (61), MS Dhoni (39*), and Manish Pandey (32*)
In reply, the Lankan Lions had no clue about good Indian bowling. Seven batters failed to reach the double-digit mark. During India’s defense, Chahal took four wickets while Hardik Pandya took three. They won the game by 93 runs.
3. 52/4 against Sri Lanka in 2017
In the second game of the same series, Chahal bowled an expensive but important spell on a small ground in Indore. Batting first, India reached the joint-highest team total of the format, 260/5, held by the Lankans since the T20 World Cup 2007 game against Kenya. Rohit Sharma scored a joint-fasted ton, i.e. in 35 balls.
In reply, the visitors, at one stage, gave a scare to chase down the score. However, Chahal’s four wickets in the middle overs ensured India escaped with an 88-run win
