Alex Hales’ Top Three Performances in T20I Cricket

T20 Cricket came into existence over two decades ago. The format was introduced in England in a bid to counter ODI Cricket and give fans a quick version of the sport to counter football’s popularity.

Despite being the pioneers of the shortest format of the game, England struggled to do well in the T20I format. Paul Collingwood and his England team won their first ever World Title in 2010 during the World Cup in West Indies. It took England over a decade to find their first T20I Centurion and the accolade belongs to Alex Hales.

In this article, we take a look at the top three performances by Alex Hales in T20I Cricket.

3. 94 versus Australia – Chester-Le-Street – 2013

English bowlers held their own to win the game by 27 runs despite a fighting 53 by David Warner. The day belonged to Alex Hales as he was adjudged as the player of the game for his side.

2. 99 versus West Indies – Nottingham – 2012

It was a star studded West Indian side that played the one-off T20I game against England in 2012. The likes of Chris Gayle, Dwayne Smith, Kieron Pollard, Dwayne Bravo, Darren Sammy, and Sunil Narine were part of the team.

Batting first West Indies scored 172 runs with the two Dwayne’s scoring half-centuries. Dwayne Smith top scored with 70, while Bravo scored 54. Chasing 173 to win, Alex Hales regaled his home fans with 99 runs off 68 balls before he was clean bowled by Ravi Rampaul.

1. 116 not out versus Sri Lanka – Chattorgram – 2014

Tasked with chasing 190 runs to win, England were in early trouble at 0 for 2. Unperturbed, Alex Hales went after the bowling to become the first batter to hit a T20I century for England.

Nuwan Kulasekara was the only threat for the English batter as he picked 4/32 from his four overs. While the other batters struggled it seemed like Alex Hales was batting on another wicket. The then 25-year-old got to his century with a six of Kulasekara to script history with the bat.
