Alex Hales’ Top 3 Innings in ODI Cricket

The experienced English opener Alex Hales is mainly known for his exploits in T20 cricket but he has a sizeable experience of playing ODI cricket for England as well. In his brief career in the 50-over format, he has delivered some notable performances, and, in this article, we will take a look at 3 of those Top 3 Innings and top-notch batting performances from Alex Hales.

This is Alex Hales’ best batting performance in ODI cricket which he put on against Pakistan in 2016 at Nottingham. With a 2-0 lead in the ODI series, the English team reached Nottingham to seal the series with a victory in the 3rd ODI. Alex Hales made the job easier for England with his brutal knock to push the opposition out of the contest. The hosts batted first and the right-handed opener carried his team to a humongous 444 runs with his 171-run knock that he played at a phenomenal strike-rate of 140.16.

147 vs Australia, 2018

Whenever Alex Hales scores big England scores big as well and here is another proof of that. The arch-rivals, England and Australia, locked horns in an ODI series in 2018 where Hales showcased his wide variety of shots. In the third ODI, Australia invited England to bat first and the home team grabbed the invitation with both hands. Alex Hales was the highest-scorer for England in that match and along with him other batters also played their part to put England in a winning position. England ended up with 481 runs in the first innings which was beyond Australia’s reach in the second innings.

133* vs Sri Lanka, 2016

Unlike the two previous knocks, this one came in a run chase against Sri Lanka in 2016. Sri Lanka posted 254 runs on the board for England to chase in the second ODI of the series. The Sri Lankan bowlers would have hoped for a fight in the second innings but the opening pair of Alex Hales and Jason Roy did not allow them to have any say in the match. England chased the target without losing any wickets and Hales made 133 runs to stamp his authority in the run chase.
