Aakash Chopra’s top 3 moments in the commentary box

Regardless of the type of contest, commentary is an essential but frequently underappreciated component of cricket that helps keep viewers interested. While a subpar analyst can ruin even the most exhilarating moments of a heart-pounding match, a fantastic commentator can inject excitement into an otherwise dull game.

Players who performed mediocrely in international cricket have frequently served as ferocious pundits. They attempt to connect with the audience by drawing on their experience playing the sport to help them comprehend it even better. One such analyst who has gained notoriety more recently for his voice than for his bat off late is Aakash Chopra.

Here are Aakash Chopra’s top 3 moments in the commentary box

KL Rahul’s century on the opening day of the first Test match versus South Africa in 2021 had been praised by Aakash Chopra. He said that in every nation he has played in thus far, the opener has bagged at least a tonne of goals. At the end of play on Day 1 during the Boxing Day Test held at SuperSport Park in Centurion, Rahul remained undefeated at 122. Additionally, it assisted Team India in scoring a massive 272/3 against Stumps on Day 1.

While on commentary he said, “There is no country or fort he has not conquered. Name is Kamaal Lajawab Rahul and he has struck his seventh Test century. He has unfurled his flag in whichever country he has gone, and has scored at least one century. Lord at Lord’s and centurion at Centurion, he has been absolutely phenomenal.”

When it comes to catchy commentary lines that delight cricket fans year after year, Aakash Chopra is an established name. Every Indian cricket enthusiast looks forward to him working his literary magic each IPL season. With his epic phrases and shayari, he not only adds humour to the game but also makes fans want to see what new things he will deliver.

Aakash Chopra used his famous line for the first time on the West Indies all-rounder in an IPL 2019 encounter between KKR and RCB at the Chinnaswamy Stadium when Andre Russell hit consecutive boundaries. The phrase was “Andre Andar, Gend Bahar”

Former India batter Aakash Chopra showered Gujarat Titans (GT) skipper Shubman Gill with plaudits after his outstanding performance on April 4 versus Punjab Kings (PBKS) during IPL 2024. After being assigned to bat first, Gill amassed an undefeated 89 from 48 deliveries, which included six boundaries plus four maximums, to help GT record a massive 199. PBKS raced down the target to clinch the match by three wickets, although GT was unable to hold their score despite his best efforts.

While on commentary, Aakash Chopra said, “If you score 89 runs in eight overs, it means you scored at more than 11 runs per over. He started with a six, then another six, and then hit short balls for sixes like tennis shots. He batted beautifully. Some people have seasons, this player has years, and every year is unmatched.”
