After two consecutive defeats at the World Test Championship final the Indian team is all in to turn the tide in their favour this time around. But to do that they will have to counter the South African challenge first. India will be playing a 2-match Test series against the Proteas in order to consolidate their bid to qualify for the WTC final once again. In this article, we will take a look at 3 South African players who can cause trouble for India in this series.
Kagiso Rabada
The biggest obstacle in India’s way to victory will be the South African fast bowler Kagiso Rabada. Rabada will pose a big threat to the Indian batters as he becomes even more difficult to play in South African conditions. The fast bowler has a pleasant history against India as he has been a consistent performer for his team against the 2-time WTC finalists. He will be looking to perform the same way he did in the last test series against India where he picked up 20 wickets.
Dean Elgar
The experienced South African opener was the major difference between the two teams in the last test series. He emerged as the second-highest run-scorer in that series and was decisive in South Africa’s victory. His experience will come in handy for the Proteas who will be bidding farewell to their former test captain. The Indian bowlers will have to put hard yards to dismiss the experienced batter and his track record against India would serve as an inspiration.
Marco Jansen
The left-arm pacer was a major cause of concern for India in the last Test series in 2021/22. He picked up 19 wickets, just behind Kagiso Rabada who had 20 wickets in his account. Jansen has matured as a bowler since then and he has become more precise with line and lengths. His ability to extract added bounce from the wicket will create major problems for India. Not just with the ball but he will be looking to contribute with the bat as well.
