3 South Africa players to watch out for in their clash against United States in T20 World Cup 2024

The T20 World Cup 2024 is entering the second phase with only one match remaining in the group stage. Eight teams out of 20 teams have filtered down to participate in the Super 8s, which starts on Wednesday, June 19. The first match is a Group 2 clash between co-hosts United States (USA) and South Africa at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua.

South Africa finished the league stage as Group D table toppers after winning all four matches. However, they won’t be satisfied with their efforts against Bangladesh and Nepal as they won both matches by narrow margins. For the same reason, the Proteas will not take the co-hosts USA lightly, especially after witnessing their historic win against Pakistan.

Here are 3 South Africa players to watch out for in the USA vs SA Super 8s clash:

3. Tristan Stubbs

Tristan Stubbs

Tristan Stubbs is a key player to watch out for in the upcoming match. The youngster proved what he is capable of while playing for Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League 2024. Although Stubbs hasn’t done anything remarkable so far in the World Cup, he has played vital knocks in a couple of matches. In the previous match against Nepal, the right-hander was instrumental in his team getting a respectable score on the board, scoring an unbeaten 23 off 18 balls.

2. Tabraiz Shamsi

Tabraiz Shamsi

Tabraiz Shamsi was asked to warm the bench in the initial three matches. But when given a chance (in the last league match against Nepal), the left-arm spinner bagged the Player of the Match with impressive figures of 4/19 in four overs. Having a leg-spinner in the team is always a plus and South Africa are likely to stick with Shamsi at the crucial stage of the tournament.

1. Anrich Nortje

Anrich Nortje

Express pacer Anrich Nortje has taken nine wickets in four matches and is currently sitting second on the list of leading wicket-takers. Notably, he claimed a four-wicket haul against Sri Lanka in the opener at an economy of just 1.80. Nortje is expected to have another fruitful outing at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium as the pitch is more supportive of fast bowlers. If the pitch offers more bounce, the USA batters will have to toil hard against him to find runs.
