India all-rounder has travelled a massive journey during his international career that started in 2009. At first, he was known for his bowling who could bat a bit. However, over the years, his batting has gone a lot of notches up and has been one of the greatest all-rounders in World Cricket with the likes of Ben Stokes, and others.
1. Batting career of two phases
As mentioned above, Jadeja started as a bowling all-rounder who could bat in the lower-middle order. He was seen as a worthy batter only when India didn’t need too many runs to win. This created a lot of criticism for the 2013 Champions Trophy winner.
Not to forget, after the 2015 ODI World Cup, he was dropped from the team on this basis. However, later that year, he worked on his batting in red-ball cricket at the domestic level which also reflected in his white-ball batting after he made a comeback.
2. Rare record of taking 250 wickets and getting 2500 runs
The 2008 U19 World Cup winner has now 2619 runs and 259 wickets. Since his comeback in the team in 2015, his numbers have improved and that also helped him in his white-ball game. However, after the 2017 Champions Trophy final loss, he and Ravichandran Ashwin were shown the door. However, less than two years later, he found himself in the ODI side in the lead-up to the 2019 ODI World Cup. Jadeja almost won the lost semifinal against New Zealand.
3. Best difference between batting and bowling average
One of the biggest parameters for judging a good all-rounder is the difference between their batting and bowling averages. He is at the top of the list as he averages 36.9 with the bat and 23.8 with the ball. The difference reads 13.1, the highest among the players who have scored 1000 runs and taken 100 wickets
