3 reasons why Pakistan lost the home Test series against Bangladesh

Pakistan Cricket Team lost their first-ever Test series to Bangladesh and the men in green plunged into new lows. Bangladesh won both the games in Rawalpindi to take the series. Once the series was over there was a massive public fury against the home team.

Shan Masood and his side now are in the bottom places of the World Test Championships. Before the series had started, many had touted Pakistan as the favorite to win with a comfortable margin.

The next series for Pakistan is against England at home which starts in a month. During their last tour of Pakistan in 2022, England achieved a historic whitewash win. This was the first ever series in which the world saw Baz-Ball come into full effect.

Here are the three reasons why Pakistan lost their home series to Bangladesh

3- Improper team selection

Shan Masood has been criticized over his team selection during the series. Abrar Ahmed wasn’t picked for the first game of the series. This move was called out by many former players in the media who felt that Abrar Ahmed could have bowled well with the surface offering spin. The decision to rest Shaheen Shah Afridi for the 2nd Test also raised eyebrows. With the overhead conditions aiding seam and swing bowling there was a clear case for Afridi to be included in the team. The pitch eventually aided the fast bowlers and the home team missed a trick.

2- Poor fielding by the Pakistan cricket team

One of the biggest problems that has plagued Pakistan cricket is their fielding. It was no different during the two-match Test series against Bangladesh. During both the games there were plenty of dropped catches. To add more misery even the ground fielding wasn’t up to the mark. Even on the final day of the 2nd Test in Rawalpindi, the Bangladeshi players were able to pinch three runs when there was only one run on offer. Sarfaraz Ahmed who replaced Mohammad Rizwan as the substitute keeper had asked Shan Masood to change the field but the Pakistan skipper didn’t comply and the ball went for four.

1- Bad form of Babar Azam

Former Pakistan skipper Babar Azam had a series to forget with the bat. The 29-year-old began the series with a duck which was his first ever at home. In the 2nd innings, Babar Azam was out for 22 when he was dismissed by Nahid Rana. In the second Test, the former Pakistan skipper scored 11 and 31 to end the series with a total of 64 runs with an average of 16. This came back to haunt the Pakistani team and played a huge role in their series loss to Bangladesh at home.
