3 reasons why Mohammed Shami should be included in Indian squad for Australia tour

Though the Indian bowling attack is already looking promising there will be certain people who will be missing the services of Mohammed Shami. The Indian pacer has been ruled out for a while after his heroics in the 2023 World Cup but we are still hoping that he makes a comeback very soon and continues to give us some great performances on his return to the Indian side.

There is no sign of Shami rejoining the team against Australia but there are still some experts and fans who will want to see him in the series. After all, Shami has been one of the best seam bowlers for India not only in ODI’s but in Test matches as well and it will be a great time to discuss the reasons why the Indian team would need him in the upcoming series going forward.

So, here are the 3 reasons why Mohammed Shami should make the Indian squad ahead of the Australia series:

1. Perfect third seamer option

There is no doubt that India will be playing at least three seamers in those conditions and it will be no surprise that they will have Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj who will take the new ball. However, the third seamer option is still under question and though we have seen some great performances from Akashdeep he still might need a lot of time to be exposed in those conditions. Shami has played the role of a third seamer before and has bowled a lot of great spells.

2. Experience and great record in overseas conditions

The other thing that makes Shami a great choice in the squad is his experience of bowling in those conditions and also his incredible record. Shami has taken 31 wickets in the 8 matches he has played in Australia and has troubled the batters in the past as well. This is all the reason that a nice and fit Shami will be an incredible addition to the squad and we all would want to see him perform against baggy greens once again.

3. Pace options needed in Australia

There is no doubt that spinners like Ashwin and Lyon have been successful in Australia but the pitches have normally suited the pacers and even though Shami might not be ready to make it to the playing squad since he has had a fairly long break, it will be great for India to have those extra pace bowling options in the series which can give them great results as well.
