Mumbai Indians will be looking to remake their team in the upcoming mega auction of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Their first job is to leave all the players who didn’t contribute much to the team in the past years. While they can retain skipper Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Ishan Kishan, and Suryakumar Yadav, they will let go of Tim David, and there are multiple reasons behind this. The Mumbai Indians squad was full of young talents, and hence, they will look forward to maintaining that class in the upcoming mega auction. The IPL 2025 will be extremely important since their last few seasons haven’t been good.
Let’s check out the reasons why MI should let go of Tim David ahead of IPL 2025:
1. Lack of consistency
Tim David was given an ample number of chances in the IPL since the team brought him. However, he didn’t play well and was highly inconsistent in his approach. Plus, trusting him during important and tough situations became extremely difficult for the team. Hence, MI will leave David this year and look for someone else who will be a little more responsible.
2. Buy him back at a cheaper price
MI brought Tim David for INR 8.25 crores, and his performance wasn’t up to the mark. He failed to perform in most matches, but MI can now leave him and buy him back at a cheaper price. He is a good player, but eight crores is too much, and MI can buy better players in that price range. Hence, leaving him for now would be a better option.
3. Limited overseas retention
If MI have to retain overseas players, they’ll go for players like Dewald Brevis who is young and talented and proved his potential. Keeping David, who is highly unreliable, doesn’t make sense. Plus MI needs to rearrange their squad and hence, getting some other players will be beneficial for them.
