3 reasons why India lost the 4th Test against Australia

Australia have taken a 2-1 lead over India in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy after winning the fourth Test at MCG. The Kangaroos defeated the Men in Blue by 184 runs on the final day of the Test. It looked like the match would end up getting drawn but Australian bowlers made a brilliant comeback to win the match.

The last match of the series is set to be played in Sydney on January 3. Australia would like to win the match and seal the series while the Indian team would like to win the match and defend their Border-Gavaskar title. But they need to understand why they lost the fourth Test.

Here are the 3 reasons why India lost the fourth Test:

1. Inconsistent batting

The biggest reason behind India’s loss in the fourth Test is the inconsistency in batting. Their star batters, especially Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant’s failure cost them the match. Although Pant looked in good touch in the second innings but he threw his wicket by playing an unnecessary shot which brought the Australians back into the contest. Rohit and Kohli were unable to contribute anything in both innings and are getting criticised a lot by the fans and experts.

2. Pat Cummins’ amazing captaincy

Australian skipper Pat Cummins is at the peak of his career whether it’s about his captaincy or his individual performance. Cummins was declared Player of the Match for his all-round performance. He scored 49 and 41 runs in the first and second innings respectively and took 3 wickets each in both innings. He was also brilliant in the bowling changes and field placements which was the major reason behind the victory.

3. Poor fielding

Indian fielders were not at their best during the fourth Test. Especially, Yashavi Jaiswal, who dropped three catches in the second innings and let the Australian take a massive lead. Jaiswal was brilliant with the bat in both innings scoring 82 and 84 runs respectively but the chances he missed during the fielding costed India the match.
