3 reasons why GT can let go of Kane Williamson ahead of IPL 2025 mega auction

Kane Williamson is one of the best batters in the world and has been called a huge part of the current Fab 5. Along with Rohit Sharma, Steve Smith, Joe Root, and Virat Kohli the former Kiwi skipper has been at the top of his game ever since his debut 14 years ago.

The former New Zealand skipper hasn’t had a great time since his move to Gujarat Titans ahead of the 2023 season. Kane Williamson got injured in the season-opening game in 2023 and didn’t take part in the rest of the tournament.

During IPL 2024, Kane Williamson played just two games before he was benched. Gujarat Titans will look to make a few changes during the IPL 2025 Auctions as most of the teams will later this year.

Three reasons why Kane Williamson could be released by Gujarat Titans ahead of IPL 2025

3- Form and Injury concerns

Kane Williamson has scored a mere 4 runs from the three games he played for Gujarat Titans in the two seasons. Apart from his bad batting form, the Kiwi star has also been injured a lot in recent times. Gujarat Titans will be looking to part ways with Williamson in a bid to bring in a more consistent player who can bat well and also be fit for the entire season.

2- Look to field a much stronger middle-order

Last year the onus of scoring runs in the middle order fell on David Miller. The South African played a few key knocks but couldn’t take the pressure on himself. With Kane Williamson not being in form, Gujarat Titans will hope that they can invest in a foreign player who can play the role of the enforcer as well as the finisher.

1- Inability to play the power game

One of the biggest faults that Kane Williamson has in his T20 batting is his inability to play the power game. The Kiwi star has been known as a runs accumulator rather than a forceful hitter of the ball. This is something that Gujarat Titans lacked since the departure of Hardik Pandya to Mumbai Indians. Gujarat Titans will hope to buy a player who can give the ball a fair whack and decide to part ways with Kane Williamson.
