3 reasons why David Warner should be retained by DC ahead of IPL 2025 mega auction

3 reasons why David Warner should be retained by DC ahead of IPL 2025 mega auction

Ahead of the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), a mega auction will be held in the period between December 2024 and February 2025. Although there have been no official announcements regarding player retention policy and RTM (Right to match), franchises has already begun their planning and strategies to build a solid unit.

Delhi Capitals (DC) have had a par season last edition, failing to qualify for the playoffs after finishing sixth in the points table. As they look to revamp their squad ahead of IPL 2025, can one of the legends of the league, David Warner, find a place in it given his poor outing last season?

Here are three reasons why DC should retain David Warner

1. Experienced campaigner

David Warner has played 184 IPL matches so far and has scored over 6500 runs – the fourth-highest run scorer overall and the highest among overseas players. The Aussie stalwart holds the record for most number of half-centuries (62). He is the only player in IPL history to win three Orange Cap awards. Moreover, he has led Sunrisers Hyderabad to victory in the 2016 season. His vast experience and understanding of the game will be a great asset to DC in the upcoming edition.

2. Can provide an aggressive start alongside Fraser-McGurk

Jake Fraser-McGurk was sensational in the last season. The young lad accumulated 330 runs in nine matches at a whopping strike rate of 234.04. Although Warner has had a poor outing in IPL 2024, he is expected to regain his form in the upcoming season without the pressure of international cricket. If Warner joins Fraser-McGurk, who is known for his aggressive batting, it could be a nightmare for the opposition.

3. Ability to bat deep

Fraser-McGurk can explode in the powerplay, but based on his performance last season, he lacks the ability to bat deep. Meanwhile, Warner has the ability to make strong starts and take the game deep, helping other players to play around him without pressure. Warner’s 62 half-centuries and four centuries define his ability to pile up huge runs and win matches.
