3 reasons that led to Prithvi Shaw's removal from Mumbai's Ranji Trophy squad

Discover the 3 reasons for Prithvi Shaw’s removal from Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy squad. India’s former Under-19 world cup winning captain Prithvi Shaw has been dropped from the Mumbai team for the next game away to Tripura. Shaw who happens to be the youngest Test century maker for India has lost his way in the last few years. His last ever appearance for India was in 2020 during the Adelaide test against Australia.

For a while it looked like Shaw was getting back to his best after scoring 379 runs in one of the Ranji matches. This knock made the right-handed batter the highest individual scorer for Mumbai in the tournament going past the 377 scored by Sanjay Manjrekar.

Off the field issues though started to plague Shaw who got embroiled himself in controversy with a model as charges flow from both sides. Even though Shaw is just 24 years old many feels that he is already heading down a path of no return.

Here are the top 3 reasons of Prithvi Shaw’s Removal from the Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy squad

3- Lack of consistency with the bat

When he started his career, young Shaw was compared to Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, and Brian Lara. Many marveled at his stroke playing during his debut innings against West Indies where he scored 134 off 154 balls. This was followed by few more good innings and it looked India had found itself a permanent opener. Shaw though started to fail as his weakness to the ball coming in started to trouble him. Mumbai gave him plethora of chances only for the right-handed batter to fail with the bat. His last fifty came during the Irani Cup but failures followed against Baroda and Maharashtra.

2- Attitude issues

According to sources many in the Mumbai team management aren’t happy with the attitude shown by the youngster. Years ago when India were touring Australia, Shaw had got hit on the shin and wanted to go off the field. Ajinkya Rahane who was leading the side didn’t take it too kindly as he gave the youngster a piece of his mind. While there is no questioning Shaw’s talent, there are reports that he doesn’t take training too seriously.

1- Fitness issues

When he broke into the Indian team, young Prithvi Shaw was lean and was quick on his feet. Over the years the youngster seems to have put on weight which is a cause for concern and topic of debate on social media. Many have noticed the changes in his body especially during the Irani Cup game against Rest of India. Prithvi Shaw and his fitness has been spoken as one of the reasons why he has been dropped for the game against Tripura.
