3 players who were lucky to be picked in India’s squad for the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy vs Australia

Check out three surprising selections for India’s 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy squad. Team India are set to tour Australia for the five-match Border Gavaskar Trophy starting on 22nd November. The squad was picked on late Friday night as Rohit Sharma is set to lead the side. Mohammad Shami and Kuldeep Yadav haven’t been named in the team while Axar Patel has been dropped by the selectors.

Harshit Rana has been given a call-up for his current good form with the ball. The youngster justified his selection by picking a fifer in the ongoing third round of Ranji Trophy matches. Akash Deep has been retained with Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj set to lead the bowling attack.

All-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has been given his maiden Test call-up on the back of his promising start to his Indian career. Veteran batter and Bengal skipper Abhimanyu Eeswaran has been named as the third opener in the side. Skipper Rohit Sharma is set to miss one Test with the impending birth of his child.

Here are the three players who were lucky to be picked for the Australian tour

3. Prasidh Krishna

Prasidh Krishna

The 28-year-old pacer, when in full form, can bowl out any opposition with his pace and hostility. Taking Prasidh Krishna to Australia is a huge risk considering his injury records. The tall seamer from Karnataka had missed the majority of cricketing action in 2024 after getting injured after the South African tour. One more injury would mean that India will have just 3 experienced pacers in the camp. With workload management set to play a key role, Prasidh Krishna considering his injured past is lucky to be picked for the tour.

2. Nitish Kumar Reddy

Nitish Kumar Reddy

The 21-year-old has already made a great start to his Indian career in the T20I format during the recent Bangladesh series. Picking the youngster for a tour of Australia with little experience is a huge punt by the Indian selectors. Nitish Reddy has played just 21 first-class games and scored 708 runs with one century and two fifties. His average of 21 is a huge cause of concern though. With the ball, the pacer has done well with 55 wickets and a best of 5/53 which is one of the two fifers he has picked. Shardul Thakur did well for India in the last tour. The fact that the veteran star was ignored and Nitish Kumar Reddy has been picked is a huge surprise.

1. KL Rahul

KL Rahul

India’s veteran batter KL Rahul is on his third tour of Australia and it is a huge surprise his name was penciled in. The 32-year-old has been going through a bad patch of form which saw him being dropped for the Pune Test against New Zealand. There were reports that Cheteshwar Pujara could be considered after the 36-year-old scored a double ton for Saurashtra. KL Rahul will have to pull up his socks and start to score runs and help India in the middle order during their tour of Australia.
