The Indian team for the upcoming Test series has been announced. The cricket purists are eagerly waiting for this series as both sides are equally matched. The England team will pose a strong challenge this time around and the visitors would not be a pushover for the 2-time World Test Championship finalists. In this article, we will take a look at 3 players who should have been left out of the squad.
Shubman Gill
The first name in this list might unsettle many as he has been the poster boy of Indian cricket in the last 12 months. However, the young Shubman Gill has not been able to live up to the expectations in the longest format of the game. The 24-year-old has played 20 Test matches with an average of 30.58 which simply does not justify his name in the Indian roster.
There are names like Abhimanyu Easwaran and Priyank Panchal who could have been given an opportunity as a reward for their outstanding performance in domestic cricket.
KS Bharat
The wicketkeeper-batter from Andhra will once again find himself in the Indian dressing room as he has been selected for the upcoming Test series against England. However, this selection might not be as prudent as the selectors might think.
Bharat is a very capable wicketkeeping option but the 30-year-old from Andhra has not impressed much with his batting. In a series like this, one needs to be equally impactful with the bat because the visitors will test the Indian batters.
Avesh Khan
Avesh Khan has also been called up for the Indian Test team. However, this call-up seems to be a luxury for this series. Team India will not need a fourth pacer in two home Tests and it would have been better if the selector had gone without Avesh Khan.
With Ranji Trophy season going on Avesh Khan should be playing for Madhya Pradesh rather than sitting on the Indian bench.
