After the thrilling 5 contests in the 2023 edition of the iconic Ashes series, Australia retained the title after the series got levelled 2-2. Both teams displayed a brilliant performances throughout the series and provided much-need red-ball cricket entertainment to the fans.
However, it might be the last Ashes series for some of the players from both teams. Stuart Broad and Moeen Ali have already taken retirement from Test cricket and there are some other players who might be thinking of the same before the next Ashes series. On that note, we will take a look at 3 players who might not take part in the next Ashes series.
1. David Warner
The veteran Australian left-handed opener David Warner is not having a great time in international cricket for the past few years. He also indicated his retirement from Test cricket earlier this year. Warner scored 285 runs in 5 matches he played in the Ashes series, which was not up to the mark considering the standard Warner sets. It is to be believed that Warner might hang up his boots before the next Ashes series.
2. James Anderson
Many fans thought that the veteran English Test fast bowler James Anderson might take retirement after the recently concluded Ashes series. But that didn’t happen, however, as his partner Broad has taken retirement, it won’t be wrong to say that Anderson may also think about the same. He picked up only 5 wickets in 4 matches in the Ashes and wasn’t even able to do enough movement with the ball in the series. He is already 41 years of age and might call it up before the Ashes 2024.
3. Usman Khawaja
The highest run-scorer of the 2023 Ashes series Usman Khawaja played a major role in Australia’s phenomenal performance throughout the series. However, his age might not help him to continue in red-ball cricket as he is already 36 years old and the Australia team might consider young players. Khawaja might also think to end his career on a good note.
