3 players who Lucknow Super Giants can use the RTM card for in IPL 2025 Mega Auction

The IPL 2025 is set to have a Mega Auction. While there are still discussions going on regarding the number of players that could be retained by a franchise, the Right to Match (RTM) card is set to be available for the franchises. That way, when a player who played for a franchise in their previous edition goes sold for a certain price, they can be brought back by the respective franchises.

It changes a lot of dynamics in the auction. Hence, there has been a mixed opinion on it. However, it looks like the upcoming mega auctions will have the RTM card rule. A team can use a maximum of three RTM cards to buy players back to their squad apart from the already retained ones. LSG might have a conundrum in the retention and the RTM card choices considering the quality of players they have.

Here are the three players they could potentially use their RTM card for:

1. Yash Thakur

Yash Thakur

Yash Thakur was one of the most impressive pacers for LSG in the IPL 2024. With his pace and accuracy at the death, the youngster made a name for himself. The talented pacer mostly operates in the second half of the innings. A designated death bowler who can bowl at a quick pace could be in demand.

LSG is unlikely to retain him as the first three choice of players. Hence, he is likely to go into the pool of players in the auction. Yash might get a good price in the auction. However, given the performances of Yash in the IPL 2024, LSG could be interested in buying him back though he might go higher than the existing price.

2. Ravi Bishnoi

Ravi Bishnoi

Despite being one of the best spinners in the world, Ravi Bishnoi is unlikely to be retained by LSG. The IPL auction works on the scenario of demand and supply. There isn’t a huge demand for the Indian spinners and there’s a lot of supply. Hence, LSG is unlikely to retain him. They have a better set of players who could form a core.

Bishnoi can still be brought back from the auctions using the RTM card. Depending on the auction dynamics, there’s a chance of him getting sold at a lower price. As it’s a mega auction, there might not be overpricing of the players. Hence, getting Ravi back through the use of an RTM card could be a good idea for LSG.

3. Kyle Mayers

Kyle Mayers

Kyle Mayers was unused by LSG due to the presence of Quinton De Kock in the IPL 2024. However, considering the age factor of the South African and the All-Round skills of the West Indian, it must not be a difficult choice for LSG to make. They need a fiery opener like Mayer’s at the top who can open the innings with the ball as well.

Considering KL Rahul, Marcus Stoinis, and Nicholas Pooran as the first-choice retention, Kyle might be sent back to the auctions. However, LSG might get him back through the use of the RTM card. For an anchor like KL Rahul, an aggressive opener like Kyle is a necessity for LSG.
