3 players to watch out for from Kolkata Knight Riders Squad in IPL 2024

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) made some huge purchases in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 mini-auction. They released a lot of players whom they thought would not be useful for them. In turn, they tried to strengthen many departments that were either a hit or a miss in the previous season. They have also got their captain, Shreyas Iyer, back for the upcoming season, which would strengthen their batting in a big way. Fans would be looking forward to a new era of KKR under Iyer who missed the last season due to an injury. 

The 17th edition of the league is likely to begin on the 23rd of March. There will be an early start to the league considering the general elections and the T20 World Cup 2024 starting during and after the league. The focus of the players would be to perform well in order to make it to the World Cup squads of their respective teams. With less than 90 days to go before the start of the new IPL season, here are the 3 players to watch out for from KKR in the IPL 2024.

3. Mitchell Starc

Mitchell Starc was one of the biggest names available to be picked in the IPL mini-auction 2024. KKR made sure that they got him at all costs. In fact, they might have been ready to get him at a higher price. For Starc’s credits though, he deserves the price tag of INR 24.75 crores. IPL is after all a batters’ league and the importance of the bowlers, particularly those faster ones, is only crucial for the teams.

With his left-arm swing bowling at a very good pace, Starc is a threatening bowler at the top. With his incredible Yorker, Starc is one of the key weapons in the death-overs. The Australian pacer is known for his ability to claim wickets. When in rhythm, Starc is close to being unplayable. He has not played an IPL match since 2015 and would be looking forward to getting some experience in the league that might be helpful in the T20 WC 2024.

2. Rinku Singh

Rinku Singh is one of the emerging talents in world cricket. In the IPL 2022, the first major glimpse of the Southpaw was visible to the world, where he scored a sweet cameo against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for KKR. Though he could not win the match, everyone was impressed with his fighting spirit. 2023 was his year in T20 cricket. The youngster shined in both IPL and T20Is. Thereby, he made a name for himself in the format.

For KKR, Rinku was a stable batter at number 5. He can score runs at a quick rate after getting set. The finisher does not take much time to get set. Bowlers have a tough time while operating against him. At one point he seems to slow down the pace of his innings. Rinku is a selfless batter who can play the role of both a striker and an anchor in the right way. Ahead of the T20 WC 2024, he would be looking forward to a good IPL season in 2024.

1. Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer was picked by KKR for IPL 2022. The star batter was named the captain of the side after Eoin Morgan decided to call it time. IPL 2022 was not good for KKR and Iyer. Neither of them got going and collapsed towards the end of the season. The focus then shifted towards IPL 2023, which was highly unfortunate for Iyer as he could not take part in the season due to a strong injury. In his absence, Nitish Rana stepped up as the captain of the side.

IPL 2024 will be a comeback of sorts for Iyer. The middle-order batter will also be under pressure to perform. His spot in the T20 World Cup 2024 squad is under question and he must have a brilliant season with the bat for KKR. Even as a captain, Iyer must shine, as KKR have not been able to make it to the playoffs in the last couple of seasons. 2024 will be a challenging year for Iyer and that might bring the best out of him.
