3 players that Mumbai Indians can release ahead of retention day in IPL 2024

The 2024 IPL retention day is around the corner and franchises will have to make some choices. IPL’s most successful franchise, the Mumbai Indians is desperately looking to regain their glory. Last season they went to Qualifier 2 which turned out to be a better season than the preceding one. But the franchise won’t be satisfied with this as they have raised the bar very high by winning the IPL title 5 times. The management must get their calls right this time to make sure that they are prepared to lift the title once again. Let’s take a look at 3 players that the Mumbai Indians can release ahead of retention day in the IPL 2024.

#1. Jofra Archer

Jofra Archer

When the Mumbai Indians bought Jofra Archer there was a lot of anticipation about his partnership with Jasprit Bumrah but the duo has not been able to take IPL by storm. His injury concerns have plagued his performances. Midway through the last season, he had to go to rehab but his injury concerns have been consistently creating issues for him. He did not even play in the ODI World Cup in India which really indicates the grave injury issues that must prevent the Mumbai Indians from retaining him. Instead, they should look for another fast-bowling alternative that can actually make a difference for them.

#2. Chris Jordan

Chris Jordan

The English all-rounder Chris Jordan has not been able to impress with his exploits. He was drafted by the Mumbai Indians with the hope of getting performances both with bat and ball. Now is the time that they should look for another all-round option who can give them the quality that a champion side needs. They have a great batting all-rounder prospect in Cameron Green and they should aim to buy an all-rounder similar to Marco Jansen who can complement the ball as well.

#3. Piyush Chawla

Piyush Chawla

Piyush Chawla has served Mumbai Indians really well in the last couple of seasons but it is time to move forward and look for a young leg-spinner who can be a part of a strong core going into the future. Mumbai Indians, as a franchise, is in a transition phase, and they must look for young faces. They need a young leg-spinner who can play a role similar to what Rahul Chahar used to play when Mumbai Indians lifted the title for two seasons in a row in 2019 and 2020.
