As the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction is nearing, the teams have started to prepare their strategy for the new season of IPL. As the IPL auction comes near, all eyes will be on IPL’s most successful team Mumbai Indians. During IPL 2024, Mumbai Indians were having a tough season as the captaincy changed from Rohit Sharma to Hardik Pandya and the team was not qualified for IPL playoffs as they finished in the last position in the points table. In 14 games Mumbai Indians managed to win only four games.
Before the IPL auction, the Mumbai Indians are set to overhaul their squad significantly to strengthen their chances of winning another IPL title. As the IPL auction allows players to have a Right to Match (RTM) card Mumbai Indians can use it to retain the player if he gets bid by any other IPL team. Even though how many RTMs should be used in the auction it’s not certain. Therefore, let’s examine three players the Mumbai Indians might consider using the RTM (Right to Match) card on during the IPL 2025 Mega Auction.
1. Ishan Kishan
Ishan Kishan the wicket-keeper batter for Mumbai Indians has played a key role for Mumbai Indians over the past few years and is one of the important players in the team. Ishan Kishan joined Mumbai Indians in 2018 and was the rising player of the team. During last year’s IPL, Ishan Kishan played 14 matches and scored 320 runs with an average of 22.86. Ahead of the IPL auction, Ishan Kishan can be used as RTM as he keeps and bats.
2. Tilak Verma
In 2022, Mumbai Indians bought Tilak Verma for Rs. 1.7 crores and since then, he has been an impactful player for the team. During IPL 2023, Tilak Verma played 13 matches and scored 416 runs with an average of 41.60. Tilak Verma adds stability to the squad and is a strong pillar of middle-order. Mumbai Indians can use one of the RTMs on him.
3. Gerald Coetzee
In the IPL 2023 auction, Gerald Coetzee was picked for Rs. 5.5 crores and since then he has played 10 matches and taken 13 wickets. Being only 23 years old he bowls fast and can help Jasprit Bumrah in bowling attack. Ahead of the new IPL Gerald Coetzee can lead the pace bowling attack of Mumbai Indians in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah.
