3 Players MI should not have released ahead of IPL 2024 auction

Mumbai Indians qualified for the playoff last season after a disappointing campaign in 2022 and this time they would like to go one step ahead to add another title to the cabinet. They would be eyeing some strategic buys in the upcoming IPL mini-auction but in this article, we will reflect on 3 players who should not have been released by the franchise.

1. Riley Meredith

The Australian speedster Riley Meredith has been released by the franchise but the fast bowler had a decent campaign with the ball in the last season. Meredith has the extra pace which is an asset on a track like Wankhede which could have been exploited by the franchise. The Aussie could have been a strong candidate to become the lead overseas bowler for Mumbai but the management has different intentions.

2. Tristan Stubbs

Another ouster from Mumbai is the young South African wicketkeeper-batsman Tristan Stubbs. Tristan Stubbs did not get many opportunities to prove his worth in IPL and has not been included in the squad. Stubbs could have been a great backup option for Ishan Kishan as the South African is a handy wicketkeeper and a solid middle-order batter who likes to play explosively. The right-hander had the potential to be the fulcrum of the middle order and that is the reason Mumbai may look back at this move with a sense of loss.

3. Arshad Khan

The left-arm bowler from Madhya Pradesh was impressive in the last season but not consistent enough to find a place in the squad. Some would not agree with this move as Arshad Khan is a talented left-armer who can bat as well. He is an emerging prospect and left-arm fast bowlers give an edge in this format. Jasprit Bumrah also had a couple of underwhelming seasons initially but a bit of perseverance from the management paid off in his case and the same could have been the result with Arshad Khan as well.
