3 options Delhi Capitals had apart from Axar Patel as their captain for IPL 2025

Delhi Capitals have revealed their captain for the 18th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 after a long wait. With just eight days away from the tournament, DC have made Axar Patel their captain, leaving some of the other options aside. 

Their first game is against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on March 24, so they still have ten days to prepare for the game. DC is one of the oldest franchises in the league but have failed to win a single game. This time, they’ll hope their fate changes under Axar Patel.

Here are the three options Delhi Capitals has apart from Axar Patel as their captain:

1. KL Rahul

The first and most obvious choice was KL Rahul, who has the required experience and is a brilliant player as well. However, the DC management did approach him to take over the captaincy, but the right-handed batter denied it. This time, he just wants to play and perform well for his team.  

2. Faf du Plessis

Former RCB captain Faf du Plessis was a good option for DC as well. He played in two seasons as a captain and has good experience as well. However, the management didn’t consider him to be their next captain because there is no news about offering him the captaincy. Well, Du Plessis could have been a great captain, but how long he will play in the tournament isn’t specified since he is already 40 years old. Hence, DC went with Axar, as he is comparatively young. 

3. Tristan Stubbs

South Africa’s batter Tristan Stubbs was a magnificent addition to the team in the previous season. He played some great knocks, helping DC win games. He is a relatively young player, and DC could have made him the captain and groomed him for the future. He is a good option for being a captain.
