3 milestones Virat Kohli can achieve in IND vs BAN Test series

3 milestones Virat Kohli can achieve in IND vs BAN Test series

Former Indian skipper Virat Kohli is ready to return to action for the longest format of the game. The 35-year-old last played for India in the Test during the early 2024 Cape Town game against South Africa. Virat Kohli himself is gearing up for the huge challenges ahead as he was sweating it out in Chennai.

Virat Kohli without any doubt is one of the best batters in the game currently. His form in the Test format though has taken a slight beating. The likes of Joe Root and Steve Smith have done well with the bat in recent times. This has seen the other members of the fab four of modern day cricket overtake the former Indian skipper.

The two-match Test series against Bangladesh will be a great chance for Virat Kohli to show his Test form. Virat Kohli is on the cusp of a few milestones that he can achieve if he can do well with the bat.

Here are the top 3 milestones Virat Kohli can achieve during the Test series against Bangladesh

3- fifth player to reach 12,000 runs at home

Ever since his debut in 2008, Virat Kohli found consistency with the bat in the 2012 to 2019 period. His form at home has been amazing and his run scoring has been spectacular. No one can forget the amazing run of form with the bat during the 2015-2017 period where India played a lot of Test cricket. Virat Kohli just needs 11 runs to become the fifth batter to score 12,000 runs in home conditions. For the record, Sachin Tendulkar leads the list with 14.192 runs followed by Ricky Ponting with 13.117 runs. At the 3rd spot is Jacques Kallis of South Africa with 12,305 runs and former Lankan star Kumar Sangakarra is 4th with 12.043 runs.

2- One more century to go past Sir Donald Bradman

Virat Kohli so far has 29 test centuries from his Test career. The 35-year-old needs one more century to go past the great Australian batter Sir Donald Bradman who has 29 Test tons. Sachin Tendulkar is the leading century maker of all time with 51 Test tons. Former South African star Jacques Kallis is 2nd with 45 centuries with Ricky Ponting 3rd with 41. A century during the 1st test against Bangladesh will also meant that Virat Kohli will be tied with 30 Test centuries along with Matthew Hayden and Shivnarine Chanderpaul.

1- 4th Indian to breach 9000 Test runs

Virat Kohli has scored 8848 runs from his 113 Test matches for India. The former Indian captain needs 152 runs more to reach the 9000 run mark in the longest format of the game for India. This will make Virat Kohli only the 4th Indian batter to achieve this feat. Sachin Tendulkar heads the list with 15.921 runs from his 200 Test matches. Rahul Dravid is second with 13265 runs from his 163 matches. Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar is third in the list with 10,122 runs from 125 matches. Virat Kohli is the only modern day Indian batter who has scored over 5000 Test runs in the current team. Rohit Sharma has 4137 runs from his 59 matches, while R. Ashwin has scored 3309 runs from his 100 games. Virat Kohli will be favored to score those 152 runs and take his place in a special list with some elite names.
