3 milestones Harry Brook can achieve in IND vs BAN Test series

England are set to face Australia in a five match ODI series starting on the 19th of September. The first match of the series is set to be a day and night encounter which will be played at the Trent Bridge stadium in Nottingham. It is the first ODI match for England since their final game that took place in the 2023 ODI World Cup against Pakistan at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

The English selectors decided to name Harry Brook as the skipper of the side. It was a bold choice since the youngster hasn’t played too many ODI matches. Regular skipper Jos Buttler is injured and hence the England selectors had to make this move. It is also the first assignment for Marcus Trescothick as the stand-in coach of the England side.

Brendon McCullum who is already the coach of the Test side is set to take over as the ODI coach next year. In 2025, the England side will have their plates full as far as the ODI format is concerned. The former ODI World Cup winners will start their year with a tour of India. This will be followed by the Champions Trophy which is set to be played in February in Pakistan.

Here are three reasons why Harry Brook was appointed England captain for the ODI series against Australia

3. Time for rebuilding

England will be looking to rebuild their white ball team as the next two tournaments come into place. After the Champions Trophy in 2025, the England side will be gearing up for the T20I World Cup to be held in India and Sri Lanka. Harry Brook has the experience of playing in India thanks to his stint with the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2023 season. The England selectors and McCullum in particular will have their eyes set on both the titles and make England the best white ball side again.

2. Vital Cog in the middle order

Without the likes of Joe Root, Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow, it is upto Harry Brook to lead the England batting. The young batter can play pace and spin with equal ease and is a known hitter of the ball. Harry Brook is also a good runner between the wickets and is electric in the field. The youngster when in form can score the big runs and he has played just 15 ODI matches but his tall run scoring in the Test format will make him a huge player. The Australians haven’t played much against Brook in the white ball format and this is another reason that he could have been given the captaincy.

1.The most experienced player in the team

Harry Brook will be leading a young England side which doesn’t have most of their star players. Barring Adil Rashid none of the players have played too much ODI cricket for the national side. Harry Brook is the most likely choice for the skipper as he can take the next generation of England stars and lead them. The likes of Jordan Cox, Jacob Bethell, John Turner, and Matthew Potts have little to no experience in the ODI format. Sensing this the England selectors and team management have given the reins of the team to Harry Brook and made him the captain and thrown into the deep end of the sea.
