3 major concerns Mumbai need to resolve in Indian T20 League

Mumbai are having a torrid time in the Indian T20 League ever since the league’s mega auction took place in 2022. They had to let go of some great players like Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Quinton De Kock, Trent Boult. They haven’t been the same since then and haven’t been able to reach the expectations of the fans either.

There are again many issues that the team needs to sort about and after their loss in their opening game against Bangalore in the 16th edition of the league, they cannot ignore it and would be looking to address it and work on it to improve their results.

On that note, let’s take a look at the three major concerns Mumbai need to resolve in Indian T20 League

1) Opening issues:

Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan are the team’s designated openers but they have a lot of pressure on them to score runs for the franchise. Ishan cost the franchise over 16 crores and had a disappointing year last season. He didn’t give any great starts to the franchise which was an issue last year for the team.

Rohit Sharma has been a great leader for Mumbai but his batting has been in question for quite some time. His last half-century came 15 innings ago and hasn’t had a great season in the tournament for almost 6 years now. Ishan and Rohit can be lethal on their day and if they can build great partnerships, they can lead Mumbai to success.

2) Quality Indian bowler:

The loss of Jasprit Bumrah from the Mumbai roster is a major surprise despite the team’s abundance of foreign bowlers. Arjun Tendulkar and Arshad Khan, presently, appear to be the ideal choice for the starting XI because the team requires an Indian bowler in the group.

He can work with Archer and Richardson to help Mumbai contain their rivals with their speed, but if that strategy doesn’t work, Mumbai will be eager for an Indian quick bowler who can bowl on the undulating Wankhede Stadium pitches.

3) Over-dependence on youngsters:

Mumbai is known for nurturing youngsters from the beginning and turning them into quality players. They buy players at cheap prices and convert them into superstars of the game. Once again, the franchise has invested in youngsters and they are doing a quality job for them.

Last season, we saw players like Tilak Varma and Dewald Brevis do the bulk of the scoring and dig their side out of precarious situations. That trend still continued in the first game against Bangalore and Mumbai’s senior players need to step up if they want to challenge for a title in this year’s Indian T20 League.
