3 LSG players who could stay on bench during IPL 2025

Lucknow Super Giants were one of the busiest teams during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 auctions. Sanjiv Goenka’s owned side broke the bank to buy Rishabh Pant for a massive INR 27 Crores during the two-day event held in Jeddah. This made Pant the costliest player in the history of the league.

KL Rahul was released after talks between the player and the team following a disappointing 2024 season. The team didn’t make it to the playoff stages after making it into the knockout phases in the previous two seasons. Lucknow made their IPL debut in 2022 with Gujarat Titans and have become one of the most difficult teams already.

The likes of Nicholas Pooran, Ravi Bishnoi, and Mayank Yadav were already retained. Uncapped stars like Ayush Badoni and Mohsin Khan were also retained by the team ahead of the IPL 2025 auctions.

Here are the three LSG players who could stay on the bench during IPL 2025:

3. Shamar Joseph

West Indian fast bowler Shamar Joseph put the world on notice with his 7-wicket haul against Australia in Brisbane earlier this year. This led to Lucknow singing the right-arm seamer for the IPL 2024 season. Shamar Joseph played just one game where he bowled 4 overs and gave away 47 runs without picking a wicket. LSG decided to use the RTM card for Joseph with Mumbai Indians seemingly winning the bid during the auctions.

2. Mitchell Marsh

On paper, this looks like a very controversial move but Mitchell Marsh could be seen warming the benches during IPL 2025. The 33-year-old played just 4 games during the 2024 season for Delhi Capitals where he scored 61 runs and picked a solitary wicket. Mitchell Marsh has played 42 games in the IPL scoring 665 runs and also picking 37 wickets. The numbers may not be enough to warrant a place in the starting XI for the Australian T20I skipper.

1. Abdul Samad

Abdul Samad

Young batting sensation Abdul Samad is known for his big-hitting skills and has been earmarked as a potential India player. Lucknow already has a famed and strong middle order with the likes of Nicholas Pooran, Rishabh Pant, Aiden Markram, David Miller, Daryl Mitchell, and Shahbaz Ahmed in the fray. Abdul Samad could find it difficult to make it into the playing XI. The right-handed batter has also had a lean time with the bat in the last few seasons.
